Gert was always so kind to me, encouraging me to eat anything I wanted before starting my shift, always smiling and telling everyone, "Enjoy!" When I make coffee at work, I always put a pinch of salt in the coffee grounds, the way she taught me, so she's always on my mind. Thank you, Gert.

Dear Karan, Brad, and Scott,

I just found this two years later, looking up old friends. All of you have a special place in my heart. Dear Brad, I still have your book.
Love,

Dear Karen, Brad, and Scott,
I was so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I remember when we were kids and we came to your house for dinner. It was such an exciting thing because we lived in the country and you guys were in the "big" city. I so wish Aunt Joyce and Mom could have gotten together again before they passed. Her last visit was so great for Mom. They laughed so much and went through boxes of kleenix. Mom told stories of her and Aunt Joyce and Uncle Fred all the time. Aunt Joyce was such a free spirit and so determined. Please know my love and prayers are with you all. What a joyful occassion it will be when they all meet up again in heaven. It gives me such comfort to think of them happy and free of pain once again.
Love Cindy and family

To Karan, Brad, Scott and families,

Sending our deepest sympathies to you at this difficult time. We are all sitting here remembering the fun times with Aunt Joyce singing and playing the piano at Nana and Grampa"s ,  and the fun and (loud) and messy spagetti dinners in Crystal Beach.  Mom especially has great memories of the wine parties and the yellow rose your mom would bring her just because she once said she loved them.  Aunt Joyce always had a big heart and we would always be thrilled to see her. She would send dozens of bagels with cream cheese (of course) home with Shelley every weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Hugs & Kisses. Love Olga, Shelley, Sally & Janice and families.

Beth McCarthy Good memories November 9, 2011

Dear Scotty, Karan and Brad, Lucy, and all other McCrorie clan,

Sending you my condolences and hugs for the loss of Gert. She was an amazing woman and i have so many great memories of working at the Deli where i got to know Gert, your dad Andy and all of you. I think it took me months (maybe years!) to really figure out that she was your mum and also that Gert wasn't even her real name.  She was a firehouse and I loved the way she was with people - she taught me a lot on that front. I remember her like a mum, boss, mentor and friend all wrapped in one. Hope these coming weeks bring peace and loads of good memories,
Love and hugs to all of you, Beth

My sincere condolences to the the McCrorie family,

I did not know Gert well, but I remember her very well. She was the woman of boundless energy and charm, holding court in the basement of the St. Lawerence market. She was always moving, always engaged with people, and seemed to be so suited for what she was doing. I always got the impression Gert was as much of the attraction to Gert's Deli as the food! It was people like Gert that gave the place it's character. Someone with such a wonderful personality is a loss for all of us, and she will be missed.

Dear Karen, Brad and Scotty,

I am thinking about you and your loss everyday. We all loved Gerty like our own Mum. She employed us, and taught us by example!

Love Petey in Aussie!!! Miss you guys!

The McCrorie Family,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Gert was an amazing, fiesty, funny woman. She loved all of you so fiercely. Some of my best, and funniest memories are of times spent in Gert's house with Scott and Lucy - usually we were in the basement being naughty but we'd go upstairs, sit with Gert for a while, drink wine and chat about her day and what was going on in the world at the time.

I know you will miss her dearly and I send my love and hugs.
Sue
